So the VISA process has been a crazy one and thanks to God, Emily and I got ours within a few months of being here. Because of some different issues with the letters of invitation, the school, the consolate, and on and on, there are some people who still don't have theirs. Because of this they have been having to go home to get thier VISAs and then come back. This has created a need for subs, which is tough here because all the teachers are here because they are already teaching at our school. This means that retired teachers, and parents in our school community have to step in and teach (well...and some of the current teachers have to just teach more things). So far to leave has been the Kliewer family (who I spent Thanksgiving and Christmas with) and the Custers. The Kliewer's left about three weeks ago and they got their VISA's and should be back within a couple days. The Custers just left last week and they will be gone about 3 weeks. Because of that, Emily is having to teach Calculus...which hasn't been exciting or wonderful in any way really...and has been more stress for her. Then now the 1st, 3rd, and 4th grade teachers are leaving. Mary (4th) left today, along with Lisa B (HS Science). It will be crazy to have 3 grades in the Elem. taught by subs. It should be ok though. Laura (3rd) and Annah Kate (1st) will be leaving Monday morning.
So the really crazy part is that...well according to the most recent interpretation of the law...these people (plus a couple others) aren't really here entirely legally. So tonight, as I was home BY MYSELF, there is a knock on the door. At my door are three Hungarians in what seems to be police or some gov't official uniforms. I open the door and the one woman shows me a piece of paper with Lisa B's name on it. I explain that she doesn't live here and give a brief description of her apartment building location. They say ok and leave. This scared me a bit but knowing Lisa had already left the country this morning (as far as I know) I figured it was alright. I called Paula to tell her about it and give her a heads up about what happened since she lives next door to Lisa. As I am on the phone with her, there is a knock at her door and she hangs up the phone. She then calls me back about 5ish minutes later and tells me that the people showed them (her roommate and her) the same paper with Lisa's name on it. They explained that she had left the country this morning and then the police people ask to see their passports. Paula was scared because she is one of the people I mentioned earlier. When she and her roommate come back to the door the police smile and say no it's ok and they only ask to see Heather's. This is such a God thing because Heather actually has her VISA. It was just amazing. I have no idea what would have happened if they looked at Paula's passport and seen that she didn't have the VISA. So, you can pray for us all around here, not knowing what will happen next. We can't figure out why they came to my apartment and how they would know where we live. God is so good.
